October 5th was timely for our second Focus on Peru seminar with Premier Sponsor Macleod Dixon LLP for two reasons:

1) It came seven days after the announcement of three new bills for mining royalties in Peru; and

2) It came one day after the announcement of Macleod Dixons's merger with Norton Rose OR LLP (formerly Ogilvy Renault) to form Norton Rose Canada.

Over the course of the afternoon a total of one hundred and ten participants heard project updates by Epic Mining, Strait Gold, Sunset Cove and Viper Gold as well as technical presentations on doing business in Peru's mining industry by Ernst & Young, Jennings Capital and Macleod Dixon.

    • The seminar was the fourth in On the Ground Group's mineSouthAmerica series and second focussing specifically on Peru.

    Of the total audience 27% were from the financial sector (analysts, investment bankers, etc), 27% were senior mining executives, 15% were lawyers (including lawyers from Macleod Dixon and Norton Rose), 12% were service providers or advisors to the mining industry, 4% represented mining media, 4% were from engineering firms and 10% miscellaneous - all with an interest in mining projects in Peru.
